Why I chose to be a PE teacher....

Hi, my name is David Lieberman and I am from Visalia, California.  I received a B.S. in Kinesiology  with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Fresno State University.  I grew up playing sports year round and enjoy being active.  Other than playing professional baseball, I really didn't have any vision concerning a career.  In 2008 I took a personality test that suggested coaching, mentoring, and teaching as my strengths. After graduating  I worked with a physical therapy company in Fresno for a while running a weight loss program before being invited to work over seas with an organization in South Africa that focuses on youth ministry.  It was in South Africa where I learned how much I enjoy working with kids.  When I returned to California I began substitute teaching.  I subbed almost every day as well as coached soccer and baseball before deciding to get my credential in PE.  As a PE teacher I can use my gifts to teach, coach and mentor children. I have found that kids care more about how much you care about them then how much you know about a certain subject.  I will also have a job that allows me to travel to South Africa in the Summers so I can continue developing a youth soccer league in the village of Mavhusa.  The 2013/2014 year has been by second year of subbing and coaching.  I hope to get hired as an intern and teach PE for the 14/15 school year.

How did your personality affect your choice of content area?

I have a personality that loves to play and compete which is probably why I chose to teach PE.

How does or will your personality affect your relationships with your students?
My personality will help me give vision to my students as I build them up so they can achieve their full potential.  My gentle and compassionate side will help me develop rapport to a point where my future students trust that I have what's best for them in mind.

"ENFJ
If your closest personality type is ENFJ then you are someone who seeks to develop and promote personal growth in your friends, family or colleagues. You sometimes have a sense of their potential which may extend beyond how they see themselves. You also seek to develop the potential within relationships or the team. However, you don't push so hard that it creates conflict, because keeping the harmony in your relationships is also important."
